7 Weeks

Here's the social smile we've been waiting for! Nolan has been doing a little bit of smiling this week that is not associated with sleep or toots. He has been a lot less fussy this week, too, which has made it easier to be home with him all day by myself. Mike has settled into his first week with kids at work. I look forward to going back to work next week on Thursday. I know Gammie is excited to get Nolan while we're at work. In other developments, Nolan is enjoying his playmat. He prefers the black/white/red one over the colorful one right now. He loves staring at faces, real or plush, and he is mesmerized by anything that has black against white. We are happy to report he is still an awesome sleeper, even if it takes a loooooong time some nights to get him to fall asleep. I'm also happy to report that my work pants button once again, just in time! Now, I'm just waiting for the scar to fade and there'll be no more pregnancy side effects.
He hasn't realized the bottle is no longer in his mouth.

6 Weeks

Nolan is six weeks old today and this is the most sleep he has gotten today. I went back to work this week and Tif can not wait to go back to work because staying at home is not in her veins. Nolan came to work with Dad, Mom, and Gammie and slept most of the time so they could get some work done.

Nolan has started to really track people who talk to him and even looks when you are across the room. We keep thinking he will smile at us soon, but whenever he does smile, a toot comes seconds later.

Growing!

Nolan is growing up a storm! This is most likely the last Newborn size outfit he will be wearing (of course unless he's doing a fat guy in a little coat impression). We are sad to see the old outfits go, but are looking forward to the new 3 month clothes. I guess we are lucky because some babies outgrow the newborn sizes in a week, or never fit in them in the first place. He has also moved from Newborn to size 1 diapers. They just grow up so fast!

5 Weeks Old

This is a picture of Nolan on his first staycation. We went to the Wigwam Resort (and spa for me) on the west side of town for a one night get away. It was great to have some cocktails and a nice dinner. Nolan was a trooper. We brought his Moses basket and placed it inside the hotel's crib and pushed it into the bathroom. He slept for 7 hours with the soothing sound of the bathroom fan. I don't think they get a lot of babies at the Wigwam, probably because they get a lot of conventions, so the staff doted on him whenever we went out. It was a nice mini get away for all of us!

Bye-Bye

Nolan will be sad to see Cara and Allison head back to Kansas City this morning. He has loved all the attention! On their last night in town, we went to Si Senor of course! Mike and I use any excuse to share our favorite local restaurant with people. The girls helped with Nolan's bath and read a story while he was falling asleep. When Nolan is older, if he's ever obnoxious to Cara or Allison, they'll be able to tease him that they used to change his diapers! Sierra will also miss the girls. She warmed up to them immediately.

One Month Old

Nolan has gotten a lot of loving this weekend with my friends in town. Cara and Allison have helped us spoil him rotten! This is his first of many encounters with his mom's crazy friends, so he better get used to it. He seemed to enjoy all the attention.
Nolan had many fun events this weekend. He went in the baby bjorn for the first time and loved it! Mike carried him around the Natural History Museum on Saturday and the All Star Fan Fest on Monday. Nolan slept the whole time. We walked to the fire station Sunday night and showed him where we'd drop him off if he was bad (just kidding, we wouldn't, but you could leave your baby there). I guess Mike got jealous this weekend that I was spending so much time with my friends, because he went and found himself a new girlfriend, seen in the picture above. I personally think she needs a razor.

Just airing out my neckfolds!

4 Weeks Old

Nolan started off his 4 weeks as happy as can be after sleeping from 11pm to 7am. That was a nice treat for Mike who had agreed to be at work at 8 this morning. His alarm went off before Nolan was even awake. While he is still itty bitty, fitting into all the newborn sizes, he is spending more time alert. He is also starting to look at toys and seems to have gotten an ounce of control over his pacifier when it falls out. He is doing well with his tummy time, and we are excited to get to use some of the adorable quilts. He lays on them for something soft and relatively dog hair free. We have started giving him real baths a couple of times a week. He was not happy about the first one, but did great the second time around. He is due for another one tonight, so we'll see how it goes. His hair is turning lighter, and his eyes have no hint of brown in them. We predict he'll be a fair haired and eyed boy. Sierra seems to have adjusted well to the baby. His noises don't disturb her anymore. She does like to slip in some kisses when she can! Nolan is often indifferent to the slobber.

Opinionated

Today, to get out of the house, we were mall walkers. It was something to do out of the heat. Nolan gave his opinion about consumerism, it stinks! Oh, wait, that was Nolan's diaper, twice! We got to experience a couple of crazy looky-loos. One woman watched me change his diaper in the lady's room going on and on about how cute he is. Okay, I get it, he's adorable, but you don't have to be all obsessive about someone else's baby. Then, she continued to oogle over him outside the bathroom while we were getting him back into the stroller. Maybe that's why people cover their strollers with a blanket.

First Restaurant

Tif and I ran out of lunchmeat and other quick food and decided to go out for lunch, eating at the first sit down restaurant since Nolan was born. He was such a good boy! We went to Macayo's and the little guy ate a chimichanga the size of his head. Okay, maybe not, but we both did.

Happy 4th of July!

It'll probably be a few years before Nolan can really appreciate the fireworks!

3 Weeks Old

Nolan is three weeks old today! Above is a picture of him in his Moses basket in his crib as he was going to bed tonight. Personally, I love the ducky bedtime gown the most among his bedtime clothes, but we have also been putting him in swaddle me sleep sacks and we just got a few more gowns that Aunt Pam sent us that we will be using soon. I think varying his clothes is going to help him cope with any small changes in sleeping later. Of course, we have a very set bedtime routine. First, we take a walk just after sunset. It still may have been 103 outside still tonight, but he has done really well and loves looking up at the streetlights on the walks. Sierra has been good on them too. After our walk, it's either bath or hair washing. We wouldn't want any cradle cap! Then it is off for one last change, a bottle, and then a book. He likes to track our voices and tends to calm down a bit if he is fussy. After the book either Tif or I put him down in our arms usually singing to him. I like singing "How Sweet It Is" by James Taylor and since Tif knows the lyrics for songs that she doesn't know the artists to, she varies her songs a lot. He is usually down by 10 and not up until 4 for his night feeding. Sometimes, like tonight, he wants some more singing time. Tonight, I put the mobile and sang to him as he stared up at the circling jungle creatures. I gently shook him until he was out like a light, but of course his Phillies nightlight is still on!
